This TCF IRN French exam is designed to testing knowledge of the French language French for applications for resident ‘s card in France or access to French nationality.

The head of the Integration and Nationality Access Ministry commissioned the public institution France Éducation International to create a French language test that addresses the needs of foreigners living in France.

This test has been utilised since January 2022. Langue Onze Toulouse is an officially accredited French examination centre by France Éducation International for administering TCF tests and DELF/DALF exams.

Following the promulgation of Act no. 2024-42 of 26 January 2024, the new government requirements for proficiency in French are evolving and will be applied by the authorities by 1 January 2026 at the latest:

  • Naturalisation: a B2level will be required.
  • Resident card: a B1level will be required.
  • Multi-annual residence permit : A2level now required

The TCF IRN consists of four tests lasting a total of approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes:

The TCF IRN, which stands for Test de Connaissance du Français Intégration, Résidence et Nationalité, is intended for foreign individuals who are over 16 years old and wish to obtain validation of their French language proficiency for various purposes. To obtain:

> The TCF IRN: An essential component for your application with the prefecture.

After your registration and payment, Langue Onze Toulouse provides you with a confirmation of exam registration to support the procedure with the prefecture for your application.

If you pass the exam, France Éducation International will provide you with an official certificate, which must be attached to your application to the prefecture. 

Please note that the exams undergo a double marking at France Éducation International in Paris, which results in a waiting period of about one month before receiving the results.

The official result certificate is valid for 2 years. We strongly recommend that you keep at least one copy.

In the event of failing the exam, you can retake it, provided you wait a minimum period of 30 days between two registrations.

Please note that the DELF B1exam  is also accepted for applications for carte de séjour, while the DELF B2 exam is also valid for a application for French nationality.
