The DELF (diploma in French language studies) is the benchmark diploma for French learners. It is designed to their level of competence in conjunction with CEFR levels. The last two levels (C1 and C2) are assessed by the DALF (Advanced Diploma in French Language). The DELF / DALF certification is valid for life (no expiry). The DELF/DALF diploma is often an integral component of enabling foreigners who wish to enrol in a French university or higher education institution in France. The minimum level required is typically B2.
This diploma can also be used to demonstrate your level of French language proficiency when in the process of applying for French nationality. This requires a minimum level of B1 is required.

The test consists of four sections with the difficulty of the materials and questions varying depending on the level of the exam. Each component is marked out of 25 points, and a score below 5 is a failiure. To pass the exam, you must score a minimum of 50/100 points. The duration of the exam varies depending on the level.
